25. 有物混成，先天地生。 寂兮寥兮，独立而不改，周行而不殆，可以为天下母。 吾不知其名，字之曰道，强为之名，曰大。 大曰逝，逝曰远，远曰反。 故道大，天大，地大，人亦大。 域中有四大，而人居其一焉。 人法地，地法天，无法道，道法自然。

自因：本身不能被造，是万物的最终绝对依赖。万物都可以追踪溯源到它因。

有一存在浑融而成，先于天地分化的现实世界而存在。它无音无形，廓然无依地自在， 没有根本性的迁改；循环反复地运行，永不败坏。可以称之为天下万物共同依归的母 本。我不知道它的确切名号叫什么，给它加上一个标号说是”道”，勉强给它一个描述 说它是无不包涵的整体存在（无边称为“大”， 不可分称为“小”）。这个整体存在绵延运行，运行之中它远化展开，远化展 开之后又循环反复。所以，道是整体性存在，天是整体性存在，地是整体性存在，人 也是整体性存在。宇宙中有四个层次的整体性存在，而人是其中之一。人效法地，地 效法天，天效法道，道则以随遇自在作为法则。
There was something formless and perfect
before the universe was born.
It is serene. Empty.
Solitary. Unchanging.
Infinite. Eternally present.
It is the mother of the universe.

It flows through all things,
