  • 載營魄抱一,能無离乎?/魂(神)魄(物)合真(清神), 则万物自宾也。《易》曰, 圣人性定而神凝,不为物迁,虽以魄为舍,而神所欲行,魄无不从,则神常载魄矣。众人以物役性,神昏而不治,则神听于魄,耳目困以声色,鼻口劳以臭味,魄所欲行而神从之,则魄常载神矣。 
  • 專气致柔,能如嬰儿乎?/婴儿之不知好恶,则物全而性得矣。
  • 滌除玄鑒,能如疵乎?/不以物介其明
  • 愛國治民,能無為乎?
  • 天門開闔,能為雌乎?
  • 明白四達,能無知乎?
  • 生之畜之,/不塞其原也,不禁其性也
  • 生而不有,为而不恃,长而不宰,是为玄德。 /不塞其原,则物自生,何功之有?不禁其性,则物自济,何为之恃? 物自长足,不吾宰成,有德无主,非玄如何?玄德,皆有德而不知其主,出乎幽冥。 

保持神魂与体魄的谐和统一,能不崩解离散吗?圆融气质以致柔顺随和,能像婴儿一 样吗?清理幽深而明澈的自体,能没有任何瑕疵吗?爱民治国,能不执着于名而顺任 自然吗?在展身作为、功成身退的循环中,能像雌母一样吗?明于道而”发光”行进于 一切领域,都能无须向显学成见”借光”吗?生它,养它,生了它并不拘系自有,成就 了什么并不执为仗恃,虽获取较高的资格权能却不肆行宰制,这就叫做无限深得于道 的”玄德”。

Can you coax your mind from its wandering
and keep to the original oneness?

A newborn does not know right or wrong, therefore it keeps its complete origin. Its breath is light, its body is soft.

Can you let your body become
supple as a newborn child’s?

Can you cleanse your inner vision
until you see nothing but the light?
Can you love people and lead them
without imposing your will? /without doing anything
Can you deal with the development of all the matters
by letting events take their course like a mother?
Can you use your heart to feel and understand all things but step back from your own mind?

Giving birth and nourishing without limiting its nature,
letting everything grow and develop on their own,

having without possessing,
acting with no expectations,
leading and not trying to control:
this is the supreme virtue.
